WE CAN SAVE - THE INSPIRATION FOR EARTH HOUR IN GREECE

In times of difficulty, where does one look for inspiration? Where shall one find the antidote to sadness? The answer for Greece is where life flourishes. Given the global economic crisis, WWF Greece is getting personal with its Earth Hour 2012 campaign. People are invited to participate with their own message, one of support of saving the natural environment to protect a lot more.

José María Castillejo of Zinkia Entertainment talks about their partnership with Earth Hour

Three years ago, I was thrilled to partner with the World Wildlife Fund International and the Earth Hour campaign in Spain. Environmental sustainability – conservation of natural resources, protection of habitats and wildlife, reducing waste, recycling – all of these are important issues to me.

According to the International Energy Agency, the power sector is responsible for 37% of the CO2 equivalent emissions worldwide. RON TAYLOR AND THE SHIFTING BASELINE

Ron Taylor has not been well recently and is now very ill. The short movie 'Shifting Baselines' that I just received this week shows how Ron visits the marine national park in Indonesia with some of the most famous "Diving Hall of Fame golden oldies" and some younger professionals. This may have been the last expedition they undertook together as group of underwater filmers, photographers and passionate ocean activists.

My challenge to the Earth Hour community

Earth Hour’s challenge is no longer to connect people; the challenge is to offer a reason to connect. Any movement of change begins with symbolism - it’s a needed step to prove enough people care about an issue.

Earth Hour is past the beginning now, and lots of people are switching their lights off every year in March. We’re now at the stage of taking it beyond the hour.

I’m personally inspired by what I see happening around the world connected to Earth Hour, and the hour of “lights out” will always be a real moment of motivation for me.
