It's been a huge year for Earth Hour - the launch of new global campaign, our movement spreading to a record 7001 cities and towns, not to mention all of the beyond the hour projects, big and small, that are making a difference to the planet we live on. We thought we'd take a look back at some of the more memorable events that took place around Earth Hour 2012 and throughout the year.

POCOYO CHEERS ON THE PANDA IN MEXICO

Earth Hour Kids' Ambassador Pocoyo was cheering from the sidelines as the WWF panda took part in the Mexico City Cicloton this weekend.

The Cicloton is a 32 kilometre, engine-free bike route that is created once a month along Mexico City's busy streets, encouraging the use of non-motorized transport for the public.

IWIYW MUSIC CLIP PREMIERES ON THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL PHILIPPINES

WWF has teamed up with Discovery Channel in the Philippines to produce this catchy TVC, encouraging Filipinos to take part in our ongoing I Will If You Will campaign.

Featuring National Ambassadors Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez, the clip also includes IWIYW pledges from host of other Filipino journalists, actors and TV personalities.

RIO+20: WHAT KIND OF FUTURE DO YOU WANT?

We’re now in the two-week countdown to Rio+20, the UN’s conference on sustainable development in Brazil.

It’s 20 years since the landmark 1992 Earth Summit in Rio, the first time world leaders came together to debate the issues of development and the environment on the same platform.

What’s not up for debate is the urgency for action.

OUR LIVING PLANET FROM ABOVE

The 2012 Living Planet Report has just been released, and it shows that our beautiful and fragile Earth is in need of greater protection. This edition shows that we are using 50 per cent more resources than the Earth can provide, and by 2025, not even two planets will be enough. However, we can all be part of the solution.

Image Cyril Lagel152 countries and territories and more than 6,700 cities, towns and municipalities took part in the biggest Earth Hour event on March 31 at 8:30PM. Whilst there were some incredible stories we’ve reported in the past two weeks that capture the hope and strength of the movement, there’s one telling reason that you’ll be hearing much more from Earth Hour in 2012.
