My I will if you will challenge for Earth Hour 2012

This year, I was asked to join a number of individuals proposing good will challenges to the public in return for an earth-friendly pledge as part of the WWF Earth Hour I Will If You Will Campaign.

The challenge I’ve chosen regards a subject close to my heart, and the hearts of many of my friends, co-workers and clients: both in and out of the sea.

If 1000 people pledge to buy dolphin safe products, I will join the Cove Guardians in Taiji, Japan in October promote awareness of the killing of dolphins inside the cove.

My challenge to the Earth Hour community

Earth Hour’s challenge is no longer to connect people; the challenge is to offer a reason to connect. Any movement of change begins with symbolism - it’s a needed step to prove enough people care about an issue.

Earth Hour is past the beginning now, and lots of people are switching their lights off every year in March. We’re now at the stage of taking it beyond the hour.

I’m personally inspired by what I see happening around the world connected to Earth Hour, and the hour of “lights out” will always be a real moment of motivation for me.
