Copenhagen, March 23, 2012 – Cities in Canada, India, Italy, Sweden and the United States will be invited this year to participate in an Earth Hour City Challenge, urging them to take a leadership role in the global transition towards a low carbon economy.
New Delhi, 12 March, 2012: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has joined hands with WWF-India and has pledged his support to Earth Hour – WWF’s global campaign to raise awareness and inspire individual action towards a better environment.
Singapore - 20 February 2012: After six years since its conceptualisation in Sydney, Australia, the largest global climate change movement, Earth Hour, will be moving its global headquarters to Singapore. Earth Hour Global will be the first worldwide grassroots campaign to base its operations in this country.
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of Earth Hour, WWF Canada is calling on Canadians to join them in making history by helping to write Canada’s first crowd-sourced song – the Team Earth Hour Anthem.
Despite an intense rain, minutes before the start of the program, the central event of Earth Hour was carried out inside the Shopping Mariscal Lopez. Exactly at 8:30 pm the countdown to switch off lights started while candles were lit inside small cups of Coca-Cola, one of the many businesses that supported the initiative. The candles formed the number 60.
30.03.2011: At least 100,000 people participated across Colombia in the world’s largest event to fight global warming. Public offices, private businesses, buildings and monuments, along with thousands of Colombian homes turned off their lights, taking that extra step to protect the planet.
