INSPIRING ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE WORLD-WIDE

Many thousands of CISV members across 65 countries will go beyond the hour in 2012. CISV International has challenged its members to take part in the Earth Hour I Will If You Will campaign. It is committed to planting 60 trees around the world, if CISV members come up with 60 challenges of their own.

Events for Earth Hour 2012 include bringing together members around the world to turn off their lights from 8.30 to 9.30pm. During this hour members of CISV in Bogota Columbia, will join 300 people from their local community for an evening of musical entertainment and healthy activity, as they use pedal power to light an Earth Hour sign during the event.

This global project is part of a year-long focus on sustainable development for CISV International. As an international peace education organisation, CISV aims to inspire action on climate change through its community of worldwide volunteers and a global network of local Chapters, educational programmes and projects. This year’s education programmes will have a strong emphasis on raising awareness of environmental issues and the effects of climate change. CISV are in a unique position to help educate children and young people around the world on this crucial issue.
