Since 2009, hundreds of millions of individuals, 147 cities, thousands of companies, and over 20 celebrities have joined the celebration of Earth Hour in China.
Earth Hour is the biggest public engagement event in China. Many landmarks and iconic buildings, from Bird Nest to Great Wall show their support by going lights off. More than 20 celebrities support Earth Hour's initiatives and help to bring the message to the public.
As for individuals, 97% of China's internet users in large cities reported awareness of Earth Hour and 81% reported some form of participation in 2011, according to a survey by a well-known market research firm. In 2013 alone, Earth Hour attracted over 140 million page views through digital communications.
