OUR LIVING PLANET FROM ABOVE

The 2012 Living Planet Report has just been released, and it shows that our beautiful and fragile Earth is in need of greater protection. This edition shows that we are using 50 per cent more resources than the Earth can provide, and by 2025, not even two planets will be enough. However, we can all be part of the solution.

Coming off the biggest Earth Hour ever, with 152 countries and territories and more than 7000 cities and towns taking part, it's clear that now more than ever people are uniting to say they expect and are willing to live in a more sustianable way to make a difference to our planet.

As the hour of inspiration passed over the world on March 31, we used our Facebook page to share exclusive images (kindly provided by ESA/NASA) of the wonders of our planet that were taking part in Earth Hour at that time. WWF Netherlands ambassador Andre Kuipers has a unique perspective on our planet - seeing it from 400 kilometres above the surface means he can see where, how and why our planet is changing. From space, he sees the forest fires, the air pollution, the erosion... but also the beauty, the wonder and every part worth protecting.

The 2012 Living Planet Report says we can create more just and equitable societies - providing food, water and energy for all - through the sustainable management of the Earth’s natural resources. And you can make a difference. Head to panda.org/rethinkreact to learn more, and don't forget to head to YouTube.com/EarthHour to create your very own I Will If You Will challenge, to become the inspiration to your friends, collegaues, family and wider networks to be part of the world's environmental solution.

Everyone - from governments, companies, communities to individual citizens - can accept the challenge to make a difference to our planet. We have the capacity to connect and inspire others to create the future we want.
