#EARTHHOUR HEATS UP ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Earth Hour is using social media to unite the global community as it dares the world to save the planet.

Earth Hour’s 2012 campaign, “I Will If You Will” which is supported by a dedicated YouTube platform, asks the digital community to inspire people from all corners of the globe to take sustainability actions by sharing their own challenge on their social media networks.

“We for the first time in history, are reaching a point where our wish to connect behind a common purpose is matched by our ability to connect,” says Earth Hour Global Co-Founder and Executive Director, Andy Ridley.

We’re encouraging our communities to engage with our 2012 campaign by using the #EarthHour hashtag on Twitter, and by joining in the conversation across our other digital channels.

The Earth Hour YouTube platform hosts a global library of “I Will If You Will” challenges, and encourages people to share their dare publically through Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and email. Friends can be invited to participate and accept each challenge using these popular social networks.

Earth Hour 2011 took place in 135 countries and more than 5,200 cities – it had a global reach of 1.8 billion and a digital footprint of 91 million.
